VIDEO: K1 prostrates for Obasanjo at Olota of Ota's 60th birthday

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo joined Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, on stage during the 60th birthday celebration of the Olota of Ota, Oba Professor Abdulkabir Adewale Obalanlege, in a moment that captured traditional Yoruba respect and cultural display.

The now-viral video shared on Instagram by #k1deultimatedigitalmedia on Friday showed Obasanjo stepping onto the stage where K1 De Ultimate was performing.

As the former president approached, K1 stopped mid-performance, lowered himself fully to the floor, and prostrated in the traditional Yoruba manner of greeting elders right there on stage.

Obasanjo walked over to him, patted him on the back in acknowledgment, and later took the microphone to address the gathering and greet the celebrant king.

The event took place on Thursday at the royal celebration for the Olota of Ota.

The clip, which also showed Obasanjo speaking on stage amid the musical setup, quickly circulated online and drew attention for the open display of cultural reverence between the elder statesman and the Fuji icon.

Social media users have been reacting to the video on X.

#opueh001 wrote, “I am proud to be Yoruba,” adding that if he were to be reborn, he would come as a Yoruba indigene.

#Icon_Ayodeji posted, “Ah, KWAM 1 dobale tan finally ni. This burst my brain. Culture anytime, any day!”

#bolajiayo said, “This is beautiful. Baba OBJ is showing that age and status cannot stop you from enjoying your culture. Yoruba culture, Fuji music, and a royal celebration all in one moment. What a memorable scene!”

The encounter between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and K1 De Ultimate on stage at the birthday celebration stood out as a vivid display of Yoruba cultural respect, with the Fuji icon’s full prostration and the elder statesman’s subsequent greeting of the king drawing widespread admiration for the blend of tradition, music, and royal honour.
