I didn’t bathe, eat for four days in police cell — TikToker Peller

Nigerian TikToker and streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has shared details of his experience in police detention, saying he neither bathed nor ate for most of the four days he spent in custody.

Peller, 21, was arrested on Friday in the Lekki area of Lagos, following a confrontation with police officers over a tinted vehicle without a number plate.

Following his release, Peller took to his Snapchat account to give an account of his time in custody.

“I am ugly now, I can’t show my face yet. Omo, I slept in cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life o,” he wrote.

He said fellow inmates recognised him and jokingly referred to him as “001” during his time in custody.

He added that he went without food and water for most of his detention.

“I no chop for four good days, I no bath,” he said.

Peller said the experience had made him more cautious, adding that he was now focused on staying out of trouble ahead of his wedding.

“Nah my wedding dey my mind. Nah to dey waka jeje after wedding japa,” he added.

In a video that went viral shortly after his arrest, Peller could be seen accusing the officers of harassment, alleging that they pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at his head before taking him into custody.

He maintained that he had only recently purchased the vehicle.

Peller was arraigned on Tuesday alongside a co-defendant, Bello Oladipo, on three counts bordering on obstruction of police officers, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and conspiracy to commit a felony.

He was subsequently granted ₦500,000 bail by a Lagos Magistrates’ Court, bringing an end to his four-day detention.
